As they say, the early bird….

gets The News

BaghdadDebbieA new year, the same old boring tripe from Debbie Wasserman Schultz aka #DumbDeb, #DitzyDebbie, #KennyGWithBreasts (h/t to Neal Boortz for that nickname), and #BaghdadDebbie (I got the nickname from Saddam’s communications director during the second Iraq War who the comedians referred to as Baghdad Bob. After all, I think that nickname fits her rather well as does the pic)

Much to the delight of Conservatives and the chagrin of liberals, The Tea Party is not going anywhere

It seems that Governor Neil Abercrombie (Democrat of Hawaii) stirred a hornet’s nest with his appointment of Brian Schatz (Democrat Lieutenant Governor) to replace Daniel Inouye and not Rep. Colleen Hanabusa (Democrat from Hawaii’s 1st district) as Senator of Hawaii

Looking to replace Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. to represent Illinois’ 2nd District? The filing deadline has closed

For the armchair political pundit, here is your Guide to the 2014 Senate races

Denny Rehberg (Republican and former Montana Representative for the entire state) and Heather Wilson (Republican and former New Mexico Representative from the 1st District) say they are done with politics

Congratulations to the Alabama Crimson Tide for their blowout of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in last night’s Bowl Championship Series in Miami.

DwayneJohnsonAtThe2009TribecaFilmFestivalI wonder what the BCS game would get in the ratings when it went head to head against Monday Night RAW which was live from Tampa and featured Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who will face C.M. Punk at the Royal Rumble January 27 in Phoenix, Arizona. (I missed both, but as I am a huge wrestling fan ever since 1984 I would have watched WWE RAW as it might be sports entertainment (I have on occasion referred to it as a male soap opera) but it makes for some interesting discussions.

And that is all that is news today. I might not spend a lot of time on Twitter today due to my eye doctor appointment and then celebrate Christmas late with my sister and brother in law (who are in town from Northern Virginia) but I will be working on my “Red, Right, and Blue” and also my “Rick Bulow, New Media” pages throughout the day. Feel free to check them out and give them a like. I might also work on my message board as my sister will be working and will not be home until about 5 or 6 PM Eastern.

It’s the beginning of a new work week

And if you missed anything, check out The News from The Other McCain.

And as if that is not enough, you can always check out what Glenn “The Instapundit” Reynolds has on his site

h/t to Erica Coyle (aka The Patriotic Nurse) for her piece on Obama’s State of the Union Address falling on Groundhog Day this year. (NOTE: Isn’t every day Obama is President considered Groundhog Day? After all, we experience the same bolshoi from the un-American Obama Administration daily!)

Lately there has been a rash of Conservatives having troubles on Facebook for posting. Here are three of the articles on that.

I had gotten word yesterday (via Becca Lower which you can read at this link) that there was a Blogger in trouble. While she might be out of trouble now, it does not hurt to give her a hand if at all possible.

And in speaking of the Blogger in trouble, it seems that someone is out to cause more trouble for her. (h/t Becca Lower of Lowering The Boom)

It turns out that the attempted coup against Boehner was larger than first thought

Judge Jeanine Pirro is on the prowl against the Journal News for posting addresses of gun owners

It seems that not all Democrats favor Obama’s gun control proposals

However, most Democrats want more taxes and no tax cuts

For those of you on Twitter, there is a new hashtag called #TGDN out which was started by Todd Kincannon yesterday. Check it out and join up if you like.

The Grand Re-Opening of my show Red, Right, and Blue was this past Saturday. In case you missed it live you missed out on a lot. Fortunately for you, there is a podcast available. I will be having a special show on January 26 when I will be interviewing AJ Reissig - the author of Escape to Freedom, the first book in the FreedomRedux series - for the entire two hours. You can find more about the book at http://www.freedomredux.com.

That is all the news that is news for this morning. I will be tweeting out more news on Twitter (@RickBulow1974) throughout the day. Feel free to also check out my Rick Bulow, New Media page as well.

If you give a liberal an inch, they take a mile. (h/t The Other McCain)

h/t to Becca Lower for her piece on the Speaker vote in the 113th House of Representatives

And my good friend Cecil Brown has some good art. For instance, he made a couple of good drawings of Boehner and Cantor. (h/t Becca Lower)

Apparently, according to The Lonely Conservative, Slobbering Barney Frank (h/t Neal Boortz for the nickname) is not done ruining DC. He now wants to ruin the Senate.

h/t to Goldwater Gal for her piece on The Delusional Right-Wing and the GOP.

And here is a happy 1st anniversary to the Goldwater Gal website!

Here’s yet another case of a black Liberal bashing a black conservative.

the battle over the past month about the fiscal cliff hurt the middle class the most. (h/t Michelle Malkin)

Hope all can tune in to Red, Right, and Blue tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 PM Eastern as I debut from a new site!

No matter the weather or time

The News never sleeps.
House Speaker John Boehner may say he is through with one-on-one discussions with Obama, but we will find out at noon Eastern today if he is done as Speaker
In the “no big surprise” column, Al Jazeera buys Al Gore’s Current TV. (I cannot resist a joke here. Will it now be called Al JaGOREa?)
Maybe Mark Steyn is right. The Fiscal Cliff signaled the end of the American Era.
h/t to Diane Sori of The Patriot Factor for her Op-Ed: 85 Republicans should just put a 'D' after their names
It looks like Diane Feinstein will have an opponent to her anti-gun legislation bill she is going to propose in the 113th Congress. (h/t Jackie Wellfonder via The Other McCain)
h/t to Jackie Wellfonder for her piece on The Flesh and Blood of America
Michelle Malkin’s blog has a very interesting fact about the Senate Fiscal Cliff bill: Senators received 154-page fiscal cliff bill 3 minutes before voting on it. (by Doug Powers)
Goldwater Gal’s blog has a very interesting piece (by George Neat) on the future of America.
Join me this Saturday at 1:30 PM Eastern for Red, Right, and Blue as I have moved to another network.
And that is all the news that is news for now. I will be dropping more news links in my Twitter feed throughout the day (@RickBulow1974) so look there for more news. Also as I had just mentioned, check out Red, Right, and Blue this Saturday at 1:30 PM Eastern on a different network. Also, feel free to hit the tip jar as maintaining a blog (and also starting a network) takes a lot of work.

70th Rant: Time to give up or time to fight on?

Last night the House voted to pass the Fiscal Cliff deal, thereby slapping the American People in the face. In fact, Speaker John Boehner (Republican from Ohio’s 8th Congressional District) voted for the deal (thereby proving that he deserved the title of Schmuck of the Week on Red, Right, and Blue for December 8, 2012) as well as Budget Chairman Paul Ryan (Republican from Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District) while House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (Republican from Virginia's 7th congressional district) and House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (Republican from California's 22nd congressional district) voted against the deal, thereby dividing the House Leadership and also possibly firing Boehner as Speaker.

This whole fiscal cliff debacle reminds me of the most recent issue of the Imprimis newsletter from Hillsdale College. In it Dr. Larry Arnn, President of Hillsdale, had posted his interview on the Hugh Hewitt show from November 7. There was a very interesting dialogue at the beginning of the newsletter in which Hewitt had mentioned that “there are a lot of people who are close to saying “game over,” who are tempted now to retreat from politics—to go do missionary
work, for instance—and give up on the republic. But you have made your life’s work the studying of leaders who have refused to do that.” Dr. Arnn’s answer is one in which many people should read many times and commit it to memory.

That’s right. And the reason you can’t do that, by the way—the reason you can’t retreat into private life and give up on politics—is that the cost of doing it is overwhelming. If you don’t live under good laws, life becomes truncated and less happy, injustice becomes customary, civilization is compromised. And one
cannot acquiesce in that. One has to be involved. And since politics is natural to us—man is essentially political, as Aristotle says—and since we do live in the greatest modern country—founded that way at least—we owe it a lot. And many of the people who have seen the republic
through to where we are today have gone through things that are worse than this. So first of all, it’s a duty not to give up. But second, there are good reasons to
know that the game isn’t over.

When pressed by Hugh what he meant, Dr. Arnn went on to say,

One of them is that the election is shot through with contradictions. The obvious contradiction is that we have a divided government. The presidency and the Senate are in the hands of one party, and the House of Representatives and most governorships are in the hands of the other. A second contradiction is that a large majority of people continued to say in the exit polls that they were against raising taxes in order to cut the deficit.
One might be cynical and put that down to an irresponsible refusal to pay for existing benefits—to get more and more “free stuff.” But for a long time now, opinion polls have pointed towards the existence of a broad majority of Americans who favor smaller government. This obviously contradicts the re-election of the president and the Democratic gains in the Senate. The
country is still a house divided against itself, and that’s dangerous. But it doesn’t mean that there’s been a resolution. It means in fact the opposite: there is not a
resolution. That resolution still has to be made, and the making of it lies ahead of us, and not behind us.

Dr. Arnn went on to say that Reagan and Churchill were “two statesmen that regarded the Soviet Union as weak, even at the height of its power, because it was built on self-contradictory propositions and its system led to obvious and repeated injustices.”

You can read the entire interview here and also subscribe to Imprimis for free here. I strongly recommend subscribing to Imprimis as it brings the best and brightest from well-known politicians, columnists, and radio hosts like Thomas Sowell, Mark Steyn, John Bolton, Margaret Thatcher, Mark Helperin, and others. The main question here is, “will you give up, or will you fight on?”

It’s a New Year…

And here is a new entry on The News from The Other McCain

And in speaking of The Other McCain, a tip of the hat on their coverage on The Fiscal Cliff with the following articles:

Speaking of The Fiscal Cliff, I had found a very interesting piece by Candi Goldman of Ponytail Patriots which puts it ALL in perspective

Here is a timeline of the Fiscal Cliff Showdown from The Hill.

I also have to give a tip of the hat to W.J.J. Hoge of Hogewash for his WONDERFUL series on the #BrettKimberlin issue. In case you missed it, here they are:

(*Here is a brief note on the Dread Pirate Kimberlin series. Hoge said that the Vaughey ruling, where he told Walker not to blog, tweet, smoke signal, or whatever about Kimberlin, earned Kimberlin the nomination for The Second Annual Popehat “Censorious Asshat of the Year” Poll. No big surprise in the Vaughey ruling earning Kimberlin the nomination OR the fact that Kimberlin ran away with the win in the poll, getting 42% of the votes and getting more votes than the next 4 nominees COMBINED.)

And the #BrettKimberlin parade continues with the latest article from the esteemed Mr. Hoge: Dread Pirate #BrettKimberlin and Perjury

h/t to Becca Lower of Lowering The Boom for her article on “The REAL Person of the Year? Andrew Breitbart” (I had read the article she is referencing. It is fantastic, and the author in the piece deserves a follow or three on Twitter. I did.)

There are two pieces that make me glad I left Chicago in 1987 and only go back to visit:

Attention Sports Fans: Now you can get your Sports Fix on Breitbart Sports.

There are 4 more days until the Grand Opening of Conservative Nation Radio’s new website. Come check it out and be a part of history.

And that is all of the news that is news for today. I hope you had a wonderful New Year’s celebration. Stay tuned to this blog as there are other projects coming out in 2013 which is destined to blow the roof off. Basically, the liberals and other people will not know what hit them when I unleash a few projects from my crazed mind. Of course, none of these will get off the ground without help from you, so feel free to hit the tip jar and lend me a hand in getting these projects going.

69th Rant: The 112th Congress and the Fiscal Cliff

Well, 2012 is fast coming to an end in 10 hours and 32 minutes, and there has been NO deal reached on the Fiscal Cliff. That means that the can will be kicked down the road for another three months when the debt ceiling is reached.

If you remember from the beginning of the 112th Congress there was the matter of the debt ceiling debacle from July to August, 2011, where the Republican-led House of Representatives had brought  Cut, Cap, and Balance to the floor on July 15 (as H.R. 2560; the entire transcript of the debate can be found in the Congressional Record here) and it passed on July 19 with a vote of 234-190 with 8 members not voting. Cut, Cap, and Balance in effect died in the Democrat-led Senate, where Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) called it one of the worst pieces of legislation he had ever seen, and even Barack Obama said he would veto it should it pass the Senate. On July 20, the bill was read twice in the Senate and placed on the Calendar (The entire Senate record can be found in five separate places; S4743-4751, S4751-4779, S4781-4795, S4813-4826a and S4813-4826c) for a vote. The vote to table H.R. 2560 occurred on July 22 and that vote passed with a vote of 51-46 with 3 not voting.

I mention the Cut, Cap, and Balance debate and the debt ceiling debacle as that is how and why we are at this point where we are about to fall off the fiscal cliff. If the Senate had passed Cut, Cap, and Balance I feel that it would have been one step in avoiding the fiscal cliff. Now we are on our way toward that cliff, and as I had mentioned in a prior rant,

there is a cliff symbolizing socialism ahead of us, and this election is a make or break election in which we either have a chance to put the car in Reverse or keep it in Drive. If we keep going the way we are, then as I had mentioned in recent editorials, the country as we know it will cease to exist. We need someone to put a bandaid on the bleeding, and Mitt Romney in my opinion is the one to if not stop the bleeding outright at least stop the bleeding for 4 or even 8 years.

Well, we had failed to put a bandaid on the bleeding of the country November 6, and now we are bleeding to death. In that same rant and also in another rant, I had mentioned the Tytler circle, and those words are ever so true even here once more.

TytlerCircle"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government.  It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largess from the public treasury.

"From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising them the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.

"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.  These nations have progressed through this sequence:

"From bondage to spiritual faith;
from spiritual faith to great courage;
from courage to liberty;
from liberty to abundance;
from abundance to selfishness;
from selfishness to apathy;
from apathy to dependence;
from dependency back again into bondage."

I had said that we are in the selfishness to apathy or apathy to dependence stage. After looking at this debate and debacle over the fiscal cliff, I would say that we are fully in the apathy to dependence stage. Right now Atlas is totally shrugging, and there is nothing that can be done to stop him, even if Obama and Congress comes to a deal because it is the final countdown. As Robert Stacy McCain of The Other McCain said on December 10, “It’s either (a) a hopeless stalemate, or (b) the prelude to a total GOP surrender, and there not really anything you or I can do about it.”

End of the Year Retrospective

Well, 2012 is fast coming to an end believe it or not. So much had happened that it is hard to fit into a blog, both event-wise as well as the friends I had made online. I would like to say to everyone first, thank you for being an inspiration to me this year. Each of you had brought much joy and passion into my life in 2012. Some of you more than others and I will get into that later. One main thing is though we had not met face to face (and for 80% of you I would like to just because you mean a lot to me) you had treated me not as one with a handicap like many I had met in my real life have done. Rather, you welcomed me into your online world as a “normal” person.

Now granted there might be some things we disagree on, and for a few we even came down to verbal blows to the point I wished I would have climbed through the computer monitor and throttle you, but at least for the most part we have been civil to each other and handled our disagreements like gentlemen and not like animals. There are still a couple of issues we disagree on and in 2013 I will get into why I believe the way I do a little more. However, I also realize we are all on the same page and have the same goal in mind – the betterment of America.

There are certain people I would like to thank personally. I had done so in my blog entry on Christmas Day, but will say it here once more.

To Michael B. Smith - we have been through thick and thin from our days on the Herman Cain Dashboard back in the Summer of 2011. While we might have parted ways back in late December 2011 to early January 2012 due to you supporting Santorum when I supported Mr. Newt, I am ever thankful to you for allowing me 2 hours every Saturday to vent and let my crazed mind roam on Conservative Nation Radio.

To Harriet Baldwin and Patricia Baber - Thank you both for being former co-hosts with me on Red, Right, and Blue. No matter what, I still consider you a part of the Red, Right, and Blue family as well as a part of the Conservative Nation Radio family.

To Billie Cotter - Thank you for stepping up and being my co-host on Red, Right, and Blue. We might disagree on a couple of things, but no matter what we always make the show as interesting and intriguing as can be.

To Becca Lower - You have come a long way in the year or so since we had met. I am thankful you had stepped in for Patricia that one time on Red, Right, and Blue and that catapulted you into making your own blog and now your own website at Lowering the Boom. Keep up the good work.

I know there are others I might be forgetting, but as I said at the outset you all have been an inspiration to me over the past year. I would like to wish you all a very happy New Year. Here’s to good friends and good times now and in the year to come!
