82nd Rant: The REAL problem with the Second Amendment

Many people have a problem with the Second Amendment to the Constitution which reads as follows:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Many take that to mean that ONLY the military and police officers should have guns, but that is far from the truth. The reason for a militia is to protect the citizenship from the government. And the militia is not the military or the police officers. Rather, it is normal citizens. After all, when the British tried to take the weapons from the Patriots in 1773 the Patriots fought back and then on July 2, 1776, declared themselves free and independent from Britain.

The gun control battle came up with Fast & Furious under the Obama Administration (which Katie Pavlich wrote about in depth in her wonderful book Fast and Furious: Barack Obama's Bloodiest Scandal and the Shameless Cover-Up) and also with Operation Wide Receiver under the George W. Bush Administration (of which they are both TOTALLY different in that one did not lead into the other) then came full bore with the shooting in Tucson (Arizona) in 2011 where Former Congresswoman Gabriella Giffords (Democrat from Arizona’s 8th District) was shot. Then came Aurora (Colorado) and Newtown (Connecticut) in 2012, where mentally ill people decided to pick up a gun and just commit unspeakable horrors. After the Newtown tragedy, many politicians (all on the Democrat side) called for stricter gun laws and gun control. I am against it for the simple reason that if you look at history, the dictators of the world (Hitler in Germany, Stalin in Russia, Mao in China, and Pol Pot in Cambodia) had first come to power with talk of gun control. Then when only the military and police had guns, the dictators decided to unleash holy hell on their respective countries. Many try to make reasonable arguments for no gun control and support for the second Amendment, but one such comment only took 30 seconds, and said so much more than many of the politicians and pro-Second Amendment supporters could in 30 hours. Take a listen to my good friend Kira Davis:

Kira Davis (@KiraAynDavis) and the Second Amendment

Kira is a GREAT American (f/t to Sean Hannity for that phrase) and a wonderful Conservative woman who I am proud to call friend. She says many things in 30 seconds (as the above video) or in 5 minutes than any politician or pundit can speak in 5 hours. Definitely give her a follow (she is @KiraAynDavis on Twitter) and also subscribe to her YouTube Channel for more wisdom.

I had a little bit of a hiccup toward the end of the #WaveCave on Eclipse Radio yesterday, as my cable cut out on me 8 – 10 songs form the end, but here is all that I DID manage to play prior to the cable outage. I am hoping to be on the air next Sunday at 4 PM Eastern for more tunes, so feel free to tune in or keep an eye to the #WaveCave hashtag for more tunes.

And that is all the news that is news for today.  For more news and other snark or feedback, feel free to follow me on Twitter (@RickBulow1974) throughout the day.
